Saint Louis University requires all undergraduate students living in residence halls to have a meal plan each semester through DineSLU. SLU also requires meal plans for commuters and students living in on-campus apartments who are taking 12 or more credit hours.
Meal Plan Options
Residence Halls
If you are a freshman and living in a residence hall, you must have the All Access meal plan and will be automatically enrolled. All other students living in the residence halls will be automatically enrolled in the Block 80 Meal Plan.
All upperclassmen who wish to change their meal plan can do so through the first three weeks of the semester.
All meal plans are included in the cost of your residence hall room, but each meal plan comes with a different amount of meal swipes and Flex dollars — funds you can use to eat at SLU’s retail dining options, such as Qdoba or Starbucks, any time.
SLU’s retail dining locations accept meal exchanges from 5-10 p.m., Monday through Thursday. This means you can use a meal swipe instead of Flex dollars on specific meal options.
SLU’s retail dining locations allow you to use meal exchanges once for dinner at Billiken Club, Pei Wei, Quesara, Qdoba or Subway from 5-8 p.m., Monday-Thursday. You can also use a meal exchange at Fresh Gatherings or Café Fresh Monday-Friday, from 11 a.m.–1 p.m.
Residence Hall Plans
Meal Plan | Meal Swipes per Semester | Flex per Semester |
---|---|---|
All Access* | Unlimited | $311 |
Block 125** | 125 | $615 |
Block 80 | 80 | $995 |
Commuters and Campus Apartments
SLU students living in on-campus apartments and commuters (students living in any other off-campus residence) must choose between the Flex 300, the Flex 600 or the Flex 300 Plus 5 Day All Access. Five-day all-access is Monday – Friday access to Grand Hall Dining and applicable meal exchanges.
Apartment and Commuter Plans

---|---|---|---|
Flex 300* | 0 | $300 | $300 |
Flex 300 Plus 5 | Unlimited, Monday - Friday | $300 | $1870 |
Flex 600 | 0 | $600 | $600 |
*All commuter students and on-campus apartment students are automatically enrolled in the Flex 300 plan.
Changing Your Meal Plan
You can change your meal plan through the first three weeks of each semester. Fall meal-plan changes open Aug. 1, and spring meal-plan changes open Jan. 1. To change your meal plan, log into your mySLU account, navigate to Ask SLU (Technology Assistance) and search for Meal Plan Change Request.
Swipes and Bonus Flex
Unused meal swipes expire at the end of the semester. Unused Flex dollars carry over from the fall to the spring semester and expire at the end of the academic year.
Meal plans are charged to your student account and preloaded onto your SLU ID, but you can purchase additional Bonus Flex dollars anytime during the semester through the mySLU portal. Residential students will receive an additional 25% value with their Bonus Flex purchase, while students living in apartments, commuters, faculty and staff receive a 10% bonus.
While regular Flex does expire, Bonus Flex and Billiken Bucks can be refunded. Refunds will be credited to your student account and applied to any outstanding balance prior to disbursement. You will receive a check within two weeks of completing a withdrawal form to close your Billiken Bucks or Bonus Flex account, minus any additional promotional percentage that might have applied. Note: Funds that were deposited via a SLU department for an award or incentive will not be refunded.
SLU Meal Plan FAQ
The Meal Exchange program allows a student to swipe once for a meal. Each swipe is good for an all-you-care-to-eat meal at Grand Dining Hall.
Each meal swipe is good for a predetermined meal option from that location, consisting of a water bottle or fountain Pepsi product, and usually a bag of chips or other side(s) available from that restaurant, and a choice of main dish – see the DineSLU.com website or the campus-available ‘meal exchange’ graphic for details of the offerings of each location.
Flex dollars are used to purchase food at any DineSLU retail location. Unused Flex at the end of the fall semester will carry over to the spring semester. Flex expires at the end of the spring semester.
If you are running low on Flex and want to add more, add Bonus Flex. Bonus Flex dollars are just like Flex dollars, with three exceptions:
- You buy them in addition to your meal plan.
- They do not expire at the end of the semester.
- They are eligible for promotional matching bonus dollars that can only be used to purchase food.
Students who have a residence hall meal plan will receive a 25 percent bonus, and students who have a commuter meal plan will receive a 10 percent bonus.
Billiken Bucks is a debit account that can be used for purchases at the Instructional
Media Center, campus bookstore, printing, vending machines and on ITS software sales.
They can also be used at all DineSLU locations and at various off-campus vendors.
Billiken Bucks never expire. You may close your account at any time by submitting a
refund request.
All undergraduate students living in campus housing, regardless of their current course load, and any undergraduate commuter student who is classified full-time, must have a meal plan unless an exemption is made by our staff. This meal plan is charged to your tuition account, preloaded onto your SLU ID and becomes active on move-in day. Exemptions are considered in rare circumstances and must be submitted within the first two weeks of each semester.
Log into your mySLU account, select the "Tools" tab, and click on the "SLU ID eAccounts" icon. Once you are in your account, you can view your account balances, track your purchases, make card deposits and view or update your profile.
