The department of neurology and psychiatry will host Joint Grand Rounds from 8-9 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, in Lecture Hall 1 of Schwitalla Hall at the School of Medicine. (Entrance is only through the Learning Resource Center (LRC).
Speakers Anjan Bhattacharyya, M.D., and Pratap Chand, M.D., D.M., FRCP, will give a joint presentation, "Movement Disorders Emergencies" for both divisions of neurology and psychiatry.
Anjan Bhattacharyya, M.D., is an assistant professor in the departments of neurology and psychiatry, as well as internal medicine. He directs the psychiatric consultation-liaison service at SLU Hospital, and is board certified in internal medicine, psychiatry and psychosomatic medicine.
Prior to coming to SLU, Bhattacharyya was on faculty at the University of Iowa where he served as the director of an integrated internal medicine-psychiatry residency program, ran an Integrated internal medicine-psychiatry clinic and developed a collaborative care program for improving the management of common psychiatric problems in the primary care clinics at the Iowa City VA Medical Center. Bhattacharyya's interests are in integrated treatment of patients who suffer from both physical and psychiatric problems. He is the immediate past resident of the Association of Medicine and Psychiatry.
Pratap Chand, M.D., D.M., FRCP, is a clinical professor of neurology and director of the movement disorders program at St Louis University School of Medicine. His main interests are in movement disorders, Botulinum toxin therapy and deep brain stimulation.
Chand has worked as a neurologist in India, Malaysia, the United Kingdom and Oman, and held faculty positions as associate professor of neurology, head of internal medicine and professor of neurology. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, a member and fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (MRCP and FRCP) and a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology (FAAN). He has considerable experience in neurology and clinical neurophysiology. Chand has presented his research work in international conferences, has published extensively in peer reviewed journals and has written several book chapters. He has been an invited speaker in different countries and has organized and chaired conferences.
