The University's online Early Warning System allows faculty to notify academic advisors of a student who may be experiencing academic or other difficulties, so that the student's academic advisor can help connect the student with appropriate resources that will aid in their success at Saint Louis University.
In cases where the academic advisor may have difficulty in contacting the student, the dean of students may be asked for assistance in notifying the student. In addition, the student's faculty mentor may be notified as an additional source for assistance.
The goal of the Early Warning System is to ensure that all students are aware of and connected to campus resources that will enable them to be successful at the University. Despite the name Early Warning, it is never too late to submit a notification.
Faculty have the opportunity and are encouraged at any point in the semester to log in and submit a warning. Faculty will find links to the system on their Banner Self-Service class lists.
Follow the following steps to submit an Early Warning:
- In Self-Service Banner, enter the term and select the course in which the student in question is enrolled.
- Select "Class List: Summary"
- Near the top of the class list, you will see the following:
- "If you need to complete an Early Warning Form, click Early Warning Form."
- 4. Click on the link and fill in the form. It will ask for:
- Student's name and Banner ID.
- Faculty name, department, course and section number.
- Problems being reported (poor attendance, unacceptable grades on major assignments or exams, etc.). A comment area is provided.
- Faculty recommendations.
