Adult Faith Formation Programs
Dialogue with the Word
Each Sunday morning, September through May, from 9:40-10:20 AM, people desiring to better understand the Sunday readings gather in the parish center to discuss, pray, and reflect on them. The facilitator offers some insight into the texts and participants explore their application to life. If you would like to experience Scripture in a small group with people who sincerely wish to live its message, consider attending Dialogue With The Word. No advanced notice or preparation is required; just come when you can. For more information, contact Carla Mae Streeter, OP at email@example.com.
Centering Prayer Group
Centering Prayer is a method of silent prayer which prepares us to receive the gift of God’s presence; it is at the same time a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship. Twice a month, College Church members gather at 9:35 a.m. on Sundays (Davis Shaughnessy Hall Room 171) for a shared experience of Centering Prayer and to support each other in building a regular practice. For more information, contact Shirley Dowdy (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Ann Jeschke (email@example.com).
Women’s Faith Sharing
Are you looking for opportunities to meet College Church women, in a warm environment that nurtures your faith and connection to others? The SFX Women's Group meets for discussion and faith sharing in the home of a parishioner on the first Thursday of each month, 7:00-8:30 PM, September through May. For 2013, we are using the words and music of St. Hildegard of Bigen, our newest Doctor of the Church, as a springboard for recognizing, celebrating, and sharing the presence of God in our personal and communal lives. You are welcome to join us anytime to see if this group is a good fit for you. For more information, contact Ann Steffen at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The parish Adult Faith Commission offers a Sunday Speakers Series each fall and spring on a variety of topics. Speaker dates and topics are announced in the bulletin a few weeks before each presentation and are also posted on the parish calendar.
Lenten Reflection Series
In this Year of Faith, our parish is offering weekly Lenten discussion groups that reflect our Jesuit identity. Six sessions in Lent 2013 will focus on personal discernment in daily life, supported by the Ignatian practice of the Examen and our discussions of the book Becoming Who You Are: Insights on the True Self from Thomas Merton and Other Saints by James Martin, SJ. Hosts will pick a day/time convenient to them (daytime, evenings, weekend) and parishioners will select a group suited to their schedule. Help us mark this special Year of Faith; consider hosting or belonging to a group this Lent (email email@example.com for more information).
