Internships & Research Opportunities
It is in the laboratory and clinic that the phrase, "Where knowledge touches lives," starts to make sense.
At SLU, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience through internships, community service and research. These experiences will bring the knowledge you acquire in the classroom to life and give you the necessary skills to begin practicing as an effective and ethical health care professional.
The Doisy College of Health Sciences has relationships with hospitals and health care centers nationwide as well as with the outstanding medical centers located here in St. Louis. Students from the College of Health Sciences have done internships at Yale, the University of California-Berkeley, the University of Texas-Houston, New York-Presbyterian, Loyola University Chicago as well as nearby sites such as Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. John's Mercy Medical Center, St. Louis University Hospital and John Cochran VA Medical Center.
In addition to internships, you might work with faculty on research projects related to chronic knee pain, spinal cord injuries, vitamins or new diagnostic tests among other topics. As a community volunteer, you might conduct assessments on senior citizens, screen children for developmental delays, provide physical therapy services to Jesuit priests or contribute to a healthy-lifestyle cookbook. The possibilities are endless!
