Important Terms and Positions
AD (Assistant Director) ADs are masters level professional staff members who oversee the developmental and administrative aspects of specific residential areas of campus. AD's supervise professional and student staff in their area. RHC (Residence Hall Coordinator) RHCs are masters level live-in professional staff members who supervise student staff and oversee the community building and administrative aspects of their building. GHC (Graduate Hall Coordinator) GHCs are bachelors level live-in professional staff members pursuing a Masters degree Higher Education at Saint Louis University and are responsible for the supervision of the Assistant Hall Coordinators and staffing of residential security desks. Graduate Hall Coordinators also supervise student staff and oversee the community building and administrative aspects of their building. RA (Resident Advisor) RAs are upper-class paraprofessional staff members who provide immediate support and guidance for students in the residence halls and apartments in the many areas including personal development, community building, programming, academic support, and referrals to campus resources. AHC (Assistant Hall Coordinator) AHCs are senior student staff members who oversee the security desk and administrative functions of the residence halls and apartments, while providing support for the RA staffs. Desk Worker Desk Workers are student staff who are trained to provide security and safety by monitoring guests entering the building for each of the residence halls and apartments. Campus Minster Campus ministers are live-in or live-out employees from the Campus Ministry office. They provide religious support, services, and counseling for residents in each of the halls on campus. Some campus ministers are priests, while others are lay people. Housekeeping Staff The housekeeping staff are the building service and janitorial staff in the residence halls and apartments. They service common areas of the buildings to assure quality living environments, while emphasizing student responsibility for their areas as well. Maintenance Staff Each building has dedicated personnel to maintain facilities in the common areas as well as individual rooms and units. SLU 101 This orientation program should be attended by all students coming into Saint Louis University the summer before. It is the first opportunity for students to connect with campus. U 101 The course aims to support students in their transition to college, including orienting students to campus resources. First Year Students will meet other students who are also new to SLU, and have the opportunity to talk with them about the new college experiences that you're all facing together. Security Desk The Security Desk in the Residence Halls and Marchetti Towers provides basic ID card security for the buildings and are open 24-hours a day. Security Desks also provide lockout keys, front desk reception, phone number lookup, and other limited services. FERPA The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, 20 U.S. C. § 1232g, as amended, is a federal law giving certain rights to parents or students regarding education records at schools of every level receiving funding from the U.S. Department of Education.
