New Phishing Email Nov. 9
The SLU community has received a phishing email with the subject line: "Dear User!!!" appearing to come from "Slu Maintenance Team." It asks users to reply to the email address "firstname.lastname@example.org" with their "SURNAME and PASSWORD" or risk having their email account closed.
There are several ways to tell this is a phishing email. Though the email says it's from Slu Maintenance Team, this is a made up team and such an email account does not exist at SLU. The grammar is also unnatural, and the message is not addressed to you specifically. Lastly, ITS will never ask you to supply your password or username in an email. (This email says SURNAME instead of username, another way to recognize it as a fake.) If there are issues with your account, it will not be verified in this manner.
Customers who received the email should not reply. Instead, select it, then select the "Report phishing" option under the drop-down menu in the right corner of the email in Google. Then click, "Report Phishing Message" to finish the process. Contact the Information Security Team with any questions or concerns if you did respond.
