Teaching: Dr. Langan teaches an elective on-line course on Disaster Preparedness and is updating the on-line Disaster Preparedness Certificate Program for continuing education. She also teaches Curriculum Development in the Nurse Educator Certificate Program for graduate students. She is the lead author of Preparing Nurses for Disaster Management and co-author of Leadership and Management in Nursing, 4th edition.
Practice: Dr. Langan maintains a clinical practice in Adult Medical/Surgical nursing.
Research: Research and areas of interest include Disaster Preparedness and Older Adults and the Nursing Shortage and Recruitment of Inactive Nurses. Her dissertation addressed Faculty Practice and Nursing Student Learning.
Professional and Scholarly Activities: Dr. Langan received the "Most Supportive Faculty" award while at George Mason University. Research awards were granted by Sigma Theta Tau International, Epsilon Zeta and Delta Lambda Chapters, the Virginia Nurses Association, GMU and SLUSON Faculty Research Awards. She was selected and funded by the SREB Council on Collegiate Education for Nursing to attend their conference "Building Community-Based Primary Care for the Millennium." She was selected as a Fellow for the AACN Leadership for Academic Nursing Program, and was selected as one of twelve national researchers to attend the Hartford Institute Geriatric Nursing Research Scholars Program at NYU.
Administration: While a faculty member at George Mason University, she served as the Clinical Placement Coordinator/Community Liaison and was the Co-Project Director for the Washington Regional Academic and Community Consortium and the Project Director of the Partnerships for Quality Education program. Dr. Langan coordinates the clinical resources for all undergraduate students at SLUSON and maintains a database for graduate students' preceptors. She will be the first SON faculty member to serve as Faculty Senate President 2009-2011.
