The Renaissance Program in Education
The Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education program is grounded in instructional methodology and a strong liberal arts tradition. Students enrolled in this program will have access to quality instructors and a curriculum designed to teach them the skills they need to succeed in today's changing classrooms. This innovative 120-credit-hour elementary education program includes four components:
The pre-education core, consisting of 46 credit hours
- The professional education core, consisting of 42 credit hours
- The professional practicum, consisting of 11 credit hours of clinical experience and classroom teaching
- The Cognate, consisting of six credit hours, where students can explore an area of interest in reading/literacy, special education, science in the community, or computer science and technology
Depending on transfer credits and prerequisites needed, students pursuing this option can complete their Missouri teacher certification in 120 credit hours or less. Upon admission to the program, an individual plan will be created based on each student's personal goals and needs.
Admission and program exit requirements for elementary education certification are listed in the B.A. in Education section of the Teacher Certification Program Requirements page.
