Introduction to Geographic Information Systems
This course is designed to introduce students to Geographic Information Systems (GIS), which examines and displays data in a spatial context. This course will provide an introduction to the fundamentals of GIS, with a special emphasis on integrating, analyzing, and presenting spatial informa- tion. An introduction to GIS and ESRI products and applications will be presented. There will be a focus on GIS uses for the social sciences, with examples and application to planning, policy, and real estate.
GOALS & OBJECTIVES
This course will utilize GIS principles as a foundation for conceptualizing and presenting spatial data. Students will gain practical skills necessary for successful completion of the Real Estate Minor/Certificate including
• Spatial data analysis and presentation
• Spatial data management
• Concepts in cartography
• Application of GIS for Real Estate, Planning and Public Policy
In addition, students will create a GIS project emphasizing the conceptual context of the technical and mechanical activities, which is a major compo- nent of laboratory activity.

** Technology used - ESRI ArcGIS v10.0
** One Year Student License for ArcGIS v10 (including extensions) will be provided
