- How do I apply?
For International Freshmen (students who have not completed any college or university coursework)

- Do I need a TOEFL?
- All of our international applicants are required to demonstrate their English proficiency, which can be done in any one of the following ways:
- 550 on the paper-based TOEFL
- 80 on the internet-based TOEFL
- 6.5 on the IELTS
- 600 on the Critical Reading portion of the SAT
- 25 on the English portion of the ACT
- successful completion of a college-level English class (not an ESL class)

- 480 on the paper-based TOEFL
- 55 on the internet-based TOEFL
- 5.5 on the IELTS
Conditionally admitted students begin by taking intensive English classes in our EAP program, and gradually transition to a full-time undergraduate curriculum.
- How do I qualify for an I-20?
- The “I-20 amount” is the total amount that each international student must show proof of financial support for in order to secure the I-20 document necessary for a Visa interview. The estimated amount for tuition and living expenses for one academic year currently is $53,438 USD for academic undergraduate students and $29,664 USD for ESL students.
Proof of financial status must include the following:
- An original statement or letter (certification) from the sponsor's bank verifying that such funds currently are available and will be so for each subsequent year of your study at the University. The financial evidence must cover at least the amount of expenses needed for the first year of your study.
- An original letter (declaration) of financial support from the person(s) or sponsoring agency providing funds for your tuition and living expenses for the duration of your study at Saint Louis University. Photocopies, scanned documents and faxes are NOT acceptable.
- How do I apply for scholarships and financial aid?
We offer several merit-based scholarships for which there is no separate application. You must submit an ACT or SAT score in order to be considered for one of these scholarships. In addition, we offer two scholarships that do require separate applications: the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship and the Presidential Scholarship. These two scholarships are only open to first-time freshmen entering in the fall semester. All qualified students are encouraged to apply for these awards. We also offer transfer scholarships to qualified transfer students for which there is no separate application.
We do have some financial aid available to international students; however, the amount of these awards can fluctuate and is not guaranteed. There are also several private scholarships open to international students, and you can find more information about them here.
- Have you received my documents?
The Office of Admission receives thousands of applications and application materials every week. Unfortunately, we cannot verify when individual items arrive. Application materials and test scores can take up to 14 days to process . Please do not write to us inquiring if we have your material unless:
● It has been over 21 days since you sent it, or
● You sent it with other materials that are reflected as being here
- I’ve been admitted; what should I do next?
We send out electronic admission packets every Wednesday. If more than two weeks have passed since you were notified of your admission, please check your Spam folder and your Inbox, and make sure that you have not unsubscribed from SLU mailings. If you are still having trouble, please contact your Admission Counselor.

- Do I have to live on campus?
All first-time freshmen are required to live on campus for their first 4 consecutive semesters. You can find more information here about housing options.
Transfer students are not required to live on campus, but they may choose to submit a housing deposit and application if they would like to do so.
- When should I arrive in St. Louis?
- The office of International Services offers airport pick-up services before the Fall and Spring semester starts. Please click here for arrival information.
- Where do I find more information about my program of study?

- I can’t log in to my mySLU account/ I forgot my password. What should I do?
- You will need to contact SLU’s Information Technology Services (ITS) at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at +1 314 977 4000. Your Admission Counselor does not have access to your password information.
