HMGT 300 Hospitality Operations (3) -- ONLINE
Prerequisites: ENGL 190 and CST 295. This course will introduce students to all of the various aspects of hospitality operations including lodging operations, food and beverage operations, gaming, tourism, and other areas. In each area the focus will be on ensuring the students understand the basic operational principles and know how to apply various management tools and skills to provide optimal results for both the operation and the customer.
HMGT 311 Hospitality Sales and Marketing (3) -- ONLINE
Prerequisites: ENGL 190 and CST 295. This course will cover hospitality industry specific sales and marketing strategies and tools that can be used to effectively plan and implement them. The unique distribution channel options available to the industry and the impact of these options on the industry will be reviewed. The uniqueness of the hospitality product mix (with its significant component of non-tangible service) will be evaluated. The concept of target markets and target marketing will also be included in the class.
HMGT 320 Hospitality Event and Tourism Management (3) -- ONLINE
Prerequisites: ENGL 190 and CST 295. This course introduces the student to the fields of tourism and event planning. The subject of tourism will be introduced and its historical and future prospects discussed. It will provide an overview of the strategies/tools needed to effectively plan and manage a function: design and management, marketing, safety and security, and other aspects of event coordination.
HMGT 360 Hospitality Technology (3) -- ONLINE
Prerequisites: ENGL 190 and CST 295. This course introduces the student to specific applications of technology in the hospitality industry. Topics will include point of sale systems, back office systems, property management systems, time and attendance and payroll systems, human resource and labor management systems and others. The role of the internet for the hospitality industry and basic computer hardware also will be discussed.
HMGT 420 Hospitality Administration (3) -- ONLINE
Prerequisites: ENGL 190 and CST 295. Today's consumers have more choices than ever before making it absolutely imperative that organizations deliver consumers what they perceive to be a good value. The speed of business and the continual evolution of new products and services also require organizations to think strategically in order to ensure long term success. This course will focus on these two core concepts, quality and strategy, which are necessary for long term success in this competitive industry.
HMGT 497 Hospitality Capstone (3) -- ONLINE
Prerequisites: HMGT 300, 311, 320, 340, 360, and 420. This course requires the student to work at a hospitality or food and beverage establishment for a minimum of 24 hours. During that time the student will observe the operations and gather the information necessary to complete their report.
SLM 340 Customer Service (3) -- ONLINE
Prerequisite: SLM 300 or HMGT 300. This course explores the relevance of customer service as an integral role in the selling cycle. Students will understand the importance of developing and nurturing client relationships as a vital method for acquiring and maintaining customers/clients. The course will extend student's understanding of relationships as a key component of selling strategy. Course objectives include analyzing strategic and competitive intelligence to provide value for client relationships and methods of measuring and assessing customer/client satisfaction.
