What do you get when you combine a passion for great art, a love of fashion and style, and a commitment to sustainability?
For Saint Louis University's Museum of Art, it was an idea whose time had come when the creative forces at the museum decided to turn colorful banners from past exhibits into artistic handbags.
SLUMA director Petruta Lipan sees a perfect connection between the University's commitment to inspiring works of art and the importance of a green philosophy in today's world.
"It's a perfect opportunity to share a piece of each exhibit in a new way by recycling the materials into a beautiful accessory that can be enjoyed for years to come," Lipan said.
Banners from "Crossing the Divide: Jesuits on the American Frontier" and "Kaleidoscope: Works by Mexican Master Leonardo Nierman" were used in the creation of the bags which are available in three different sizes.
- Lunch Bag: $15
- Shoulder Bag: $20
- Messenger Bag: $25

Proceeds from the sale of the bags also take on a sustainability theme as they will be used for ongoing programs at the museum.
