Starting this month, Pius XII Memorial Library will undergo renovations to improve study space and Wi-Fi accessibility within the library, and address general maintenance issues. Renovations are expected to be completed in June.
Changes to Pius will include new seating and tables; new individual study carrels; upgrades to the existing Wi-Fi network and electrical system; construction of a new front entrance from the mall entrance from West Pine Mall on the south side; and installation of a new ceiling, lighting fixtures and flooring.
The project will be done in stages, with the demolition of the fourth and fifth floors beginning Tuesday, Jan. 31. There will no access to these floors during this phase for safety reasons.
Library patrons will still be able to access materials using a paging system, however, the process may take longer than normal. The library catalog will indicate if a book is located on a closed floor. If requested, library staff members will retrieve materials and inform patrons via email when they are ready for pick up at the circulation desk.
