The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology will host the 17th annual International Visiting Hepatologist, Geoffrey McCaughan, M.D., Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 29-Dec. 1.
McCaughan is the AW Morrow Professor of Medicine (Gastroenterology and Hepatology) at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and the University of Sydney. He is also director of Transplant Hepatology, the GE/Liver Diagnostic Laboratory and the Liver Immunobiology Research Laboratory Centenary Research Institute for Cancer and Cell Biology.
McCaughan's major clinical interests are in liver transplantation, viral hepatitis and autoimmune hepatitis. His major research interests are in liver transplant tolerance, molecular pathogenesis of liver inflammation, and fibrosis, pathogenesis of HCV infection and structure and function of proteins in the oligopeptidase family of molecules. He is a current holder of NHMRC and NIH grants to study the aforementioned topics.
McCaughan will be featured at the following conferences:
- GI Grand Rounds at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, in the GI conference room located on the ninth floor of Desloge Towers. He will present "HCV Post-transplant Interactions Between the Virus and the Allo-response."
- Internal Medicine Grand Rounds at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, in Auditorium A of the Learning Resources Center. He will present "Cirrhosis: It's Not Just the Liver."
- GI Research Conference at 1 p.m. that same day in the GI conference room in Desloge Towers. He will present "Liver Tolerance: Lymphocyts In Versus Lymphocytes Out."
- Best of the AASLD 2012 on Saturday, Dec. 1, in Il Monastero. Registration for this event can be done online.
