With the holidays just around the corner, Doisy College of Health Sciences will kick off the season of giving with Santa SLU, the College's long standing tradition where faculty, staff and students gather to bless the tree and help a families in need during the holidays. The event will take place November 20, 2013 from 8-9am in the Allied Health Professions Building lobby. The event is open to all!
Each ornament on the tree represents a wish from a child or adult in the St. Louis area. Those who take an ornament are asked to purchase the item and return it by December 6, so the gifts can be delivered before holiday break. Items include, but are not limited to: jeans, coats and jackets, clothing, movies, electronics, gift cards, household items and toys for children.
Santa Blue, as he is referred to because of his SLU blue suit, will be on hand to greet children and attendees. Fresh Gatherings Café will provide cookies and treats for the event. Santa Blue’s reindeer, of the canine type, will also be on hand.
This year, the College is donating to Kingdom House, which provides a variety of services, childcare, food and clothing assistance, job training, youth and teen programs and senior companions in the St. Louis area. Kingdom House helps thousands yearly to achieve self-sufficiency and gain economic independence. For more information, see kingdomhouse.org.
