Service Opportunities:- Center for Families: The Center for Families provides health information and concierge services to over 15, 000 patients, families and community members a year. Volunteers’ assist with providing this valuable service.
- Gift Shop: In this fast-paced environment, volunteers assist families, patients, visitors and staff with their purchases in the Small World Gift Shop by providing a warm, caring atmosphere and excellent service as well as assisting with gift and mail deliveries to the patient care units.
- Information Desk/Desk Greeter: Greet and provide assistance to patients, families and visitors. Volunteers in thisarea need to be warm, friendly and welcoming. Computer skills are a plus!
- Child Life Services Playroom: The Patient Playroom is staffed by Child Life Services, and designed to provide comfort and play to children in a non-medical setting. This area is part of what makes our hospital so unique. Volunteers engage patients in developmentally appropriate play and activities in both the Patient Playroom and at the patients’ bedside when appropriate.
- Child Life Services Schoolroom: School continues, even when children are in the hospital. Volunteers work with the classroom teachers to help children keep up with their schoolwork.

- Child Life Services Teen Lounge: Teenagers have different entertainment needs than young children. Volunteers provide opportunities for interaction, socialization with adolescents in this
environment, specially designed for patients 12 years of age and older.
- Ronald McDonald Family Room: The Ronald McDonald Family Room is a little oasis within our hospital families can spend time together away from the hustle and bustle of hospital corridors, busy waiting rooms and their child’s room.The Ronald McDonald Family Room Program offers two Family Rooms that provide a place to rest and regroup, just steps away from your child’s hospital room. Open daily, staffed by volunteers, this special space provides the comforts and cares of home for families of inpatients at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Amenities include a kitchen area with complimentary coffee, soft drinks and snacks, shower facilities, laundry areas, seating areas with TV’s, internet access, and quiet areas for napping. Volunteers welcome and orient new families to the room and rules. Ensure families are comfortable. Monitor and stock supplies. **Volunteersmust be 21 years of age or older for this opportunity.
Days/Times:Any day of the week, anytime 9 a.m.-9 p.m. (depending on opportunity)
Volunteer Prerequisites:- Application, w/ background check and TB test (no cost)
- Orientation session
- Volunteers must commit to at least 6 months of service
