Law faculty members are encouraged to contact their faculty liaison to discuss their library instruction needs. Faculty members outside the law school should contact Kathleen Casey, Head of Reference and Faculty Services, at (314) 977-2742.
There are many possibilities for legal research instruction, from quick tours to in-class talks designed specifically for a course. Students should contact the Law Library's Reference Desk at (314) 977-1447 for individual assistance.
The Vincent C. Immel Law Library online catalog contains materials physically located in the library. It also displays materials held off-site, electronic resources such as ebooks, full-text articles, and books and treatises within the Lexis and Westlaw databases that can be accessed by submitting a SLUnet username and password.
Your library liaison can assist you with setting up searches that run at regular intervals on Lexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg/BNA, and many other other electronic databases. You can have them emailed directly to you.
Liaisons also can help you set up a profile on Current Index to Legal Periodicals to automatically receive via email the tables of contents of law reviews that are of interest to you. Suggest the purchase of a book, journal or database for the library by using the link below.
Contact your library liaison if you would like her or him to come to your classroom and teach a research component in conjunction with any law school course or seminar. The Access Services staff will assist you in placing any materials, electronic or paper, on reserve.
The Law Library maintains the current editions of many study guides and frequently consulted resources on Permanent, or General Reserve. These resources are available for a two-hour checkout from the Circulation Desk on the sixth floor.
SLU LAW faculty can place books and DVDs from the library’s collection or from their own personal collections on Course Reserve. The limited checkout period insures that these resources are available to students throughout the semester. In addition, Electronic Reserves (ERes) allows SLU LAW faculty to make journal articles and book excerpts available to students through an online, password-protected application.
