You've made it! What happens next?

Take the Steps to Enroll

Please have your SLU Net ID and your SLU Banner ID available for reference. Both ID numbers can be located in your admission email inviting you to enroll at SLU.

1. Activate your SLU Net ID and password in order to access mySLU.

The mySLU portal serves as a comprehensive online resource for our admitted students. As a new Billiken, you will use mySLU to apply for housing (undergraduate students only) and manage important deadline dates.

Follow these step-by-step instructions to set up your SLU Net ID.

Go to mySLU

Need help? ITS is available by phone weekdays at 314-977-4000.

Access and Navigate the MySLU Portal

After changing your password, you can log into mySLU. We recommend adding auth.slu.edu to your browser's favorites for easy access. Then log in using your SLU Net ID and newly created password.

A few tips to keep in mind:

  • Check your SLU email account regularly to receive important campus updates. You can access your SLU email by clicking on the Microsoft Office 365 Mail app in mySLU.
  • Undergraduate students, to submit your housing contract, click the Tools tab and choose the Student Housing icon. Select the housing contract that corresponds with the semester in which your enrollment will begin.
2. How to get your I-20 or DS-2019

Upload Required Documents to Your Admission Portal

Please make sure you have the following documents in order to obtain your I-20 or DS-2019.

Please contact Office of International Services (OIS) if you have any questions, or need assistance.

  • A color copy of your passport.
  • A letter of financial support from the person(s) or sponsoring agency funding your study at Saint Louis University. Depending on your situation, this could be from you, your parents, a scholarship agency, or other options. View a sample letter of support.
  • A letter from your sponsor's bank verifying that funds are available and will be so for your duration of study at the University. The financial evidence must cover at least the amount needed for the first year, including any scholarships you may have received.

Review detailed information on submitting the financial documents required for your I-20.

Documents for Dependent Visa(s)

The Office of International Services can provide you with support in bringing your family along to the United States while you study or work. As a reminder, your spouse and children (unmarried and under the age of 21) are eligible for a dependent visa, while parents, siblings and other extended family members are not.

Learn more about dependent visas

After your documents have been verified, your I-20 or DS-2019 will be uploaded and available for download from your admission portal within 7-10 business days.

If you are currently an F1 student enrolled at another university in the U.S., we ask that you complete this transfer form in addition to the above required documents.

Spring 2025 admitted students: You must submit your deposit by December 3 2024, or your I-20 will be canceled.

3. Begin the Visa Application Process

Once you have submitted your financial documents, you will be mailed your official Certificate of Eligibility also called a Form I-20 for an F-1 student visa or a Form DS-2019 for a J-1 exchange visitor visa. This form is required for a visa. After you've received that form, you can begin the visa process.

4. Submit your enrollment deposit (all students) and housing contract (undergraduate students only).

The enrollment deposit ($350 for graduate students and $500 for undergraduate students) secures your place for the upcoming semester and should be submitted once you have decided to attend SLU. The deposit can be fully refunded if you submit proof of visa denial.

Undergraduate Student Housing Contract

After submitting your enrollment deposit, complete your housing contract online by logging into mySLU. Log in to your mySLU account using your SLU Net ID and password (refer to step 1). Click on Tools and select the Student Housing icon.

Housing Contract Information:

  • In order to begin your housing contract, you must submit your enrollment deposit via mySLU. Access to the housing contract will become available once your enrollment deposit has been received and processed. This usually takes 24-48 hours.
  • Complete your housing contract as soon as possible to have the best chance of receiving your top preference. Housing assignments are made based upon the date your housing contract is received. Please note, you may edit your document after submission. You may also edit your meal plan and roommate requests after initial submission. Editing your housing contract does not change your original date of submission.
  • You can request a specific roommate, however, only mutual roommate requests for other admitted SLU students will be considered. You and your requested roommate must provide one another’s Banner ID numbers on your respective housing contracts to make an official roommate request.
  • SLU assists students with no specific roommate match request by utilizing a software called RoomSync. You will receive communication about how to use RoomSync to find a roommate after May 15.
  • Please read and electronically sign the housing contract. You are bound by the contract once you sign indicating your agreement to its terms.
5. Graduate Student Housing and Meal Plans

Saint Louis University provides on-campus housing for graduate, law and medical students at Ignacio Hall, which is immediately adjacent to the SLU campus. Begin your housing contract for Ignacio Hall.

Explore On-Campus Housing Option

SLU is located in a thriving urban area with rental options, too. Students can opt for living alone (can be more expensive) or seek roommates to help curb the cost of off-campus housing.

SLU has partnered with College Pads to create an off-campus housing resource for finding apartments, answer questions, and find prospective roommates. We encourage students to utilize the resources and learn more about housing in St. Louis.

Explore Off-Campus Housing Options

Disclaimer: It is important to note, Saint Louis University does not operate the off-campus housing marketplace, and the properties listed are not endorsed by SLU. The University does not inspect or guarantee for the condition or quality of the rental units listed. SLU does not assume responsibility for, or endorse/control links that result from any housing referral. Saint Louis University does not assume responsibility for the arrangement of rental contracts between individual tenants and landlords.

Tips for Finding Off-Campus Housing:

  • Students should thoroughly research options considering cost associated with living off-campus including rent, utilities (electricity, water), parking, and providing an upfront security deposit.
  • Students should carefully ready any contracts and be aware of any applicable state and federal (U.S) housing laws.

Students are encouraged to secure area housing before entering the United States. However, if students need temporary accommodations while finding housing or need a place to stay before moving into their housing, we recommend one of the many hotels near the SLU campus. Ask about SLU discount options when booking.

Area Hotel Options

Graduate students as commuters to campus are eligible for meal plan options. To learn more, visit SLU Meal Plans.

  • Submit your student ID photo online before arriving on campus. See instructions here.
10. Provide proof of health insurance

All international students, scholars and their dependents must have adequate health insurance for the duration of their stay in the United States. Neither the U.S. government nor Saint Louis University pays for medical care. You have options to manage your health care coverage.

OPTION 1: You may purchase insurance through agencies in your home country, agencies in the U.S. or from your embassy, or you may enroll in the University's student health plan.

Enrollment in an adequate plan must occur either before or shortly after your arrival. Students must provide proof of health insurance through the SLU health insurance waiver form. Students who fail to provide health insurance information will be automatically enrolled and billed for SLU Health insurance.

OPTION 2: If you decide to purchase health insurance from Saint Louis University upon arrival, your coverage will begin on the first day of classes. You may purchase supplemental insurance that will provide coverage from the time you arrive in the United States until your coverage begins with Saint Louis University. Learn more about purchasing supplemental health insurance.

11. Provide proof of immunization and history of health

All SLU students must provide a record of the immunizations they have received and complete a health history questionnaire. New international students must have completed all required immunizations in order to register for classes.
