Professional Mentoring & Partnerships

Build your network and learn from professionals in the field in Saint Louis University's Department of Communication.

St. Louis area professionals serve as guest speakers in classes, offer mentoring and networking opportunities for students, and teach some of our classes. In addition, our Communication Advisory Board ensures that the Department of Communication develops students who are competitive in the workforce and keeps up with changes in the communication field.

Professional Mentoring Program

Connect with a professional in your field for career advice and resume feedback. The Department of Communication has a mentoring network for our students to learn from professionals working in a variety of communication industries, including advertising, digital media, event planning, journalism, market research, marketing, project management, public relations, and publishing. Our network of professionals includes individuals from both corporate and nonprofit organizations.

Mentoring options include being paired with a professional to provide career advice and resume feedback and also perhaps job shadowing. Remote mentoring also is an option.

To sign up, fill out this form indicating which types of mentoring you'd like to receive, and we'll pair you with a professional who works in your field of interest. (Please note: These are working professionals who have graciously volunteered their time to help you and other students, and they will determine the frequency of your contact.)

Communication Advisory Board

Our advisory board consists of professionals in a wide range of communication careers. Our board members offer insight into the essential skills the Department of Communication should teach its students and make suggestions about how the department can improve its curriculum to reflect changing communication industries.

Once a year, our board hosts a communication networking event, giving students an opportunity to interact directly with board members and ask them questions. The board is made up of a mix of SLU alumni and friends of SLU.
