Taste the City with SLU's Culinary Club
The city of St. Louis is full of unique and delicious food waiting to be discovered. One club at Saint Louis University strives to let students experience the great food that the community has to offer, and that is the Culinary Club.
Founded by students in the Culinary program of the Nutrition and Dietetics department, Culinary Club is a place where any students – Nutrition or otherwise – can meet to share their love of food, experience the cultural diversity of the city’s food scene and impact the community through outreach activities.
Graduate student and Culinary Club member Colin Sobol spoke about how the club is a great way to get students to step out and experience a broader range of St. Louis.
“It gives students a chance to break up their routine. We don’t give any lectures, we experience the city firsthand! We learn from St. Louis’s most honored chefs; I know there is no other club like ours on campus.” - Sobol
Culinary Club meets once or twice a month and usually plans its meetings around seasonal events that occur in the culinary world. A favorite activity of many people in the club are the restaurant tours sponsored by STL Culinary Tours during which students go behind the scenes at some of the most famous restaurants in St. Louis and “taste their way through the city”.
If you are interested in joining or learning more about Culinary Club, please contact Nutrition and Dietetics Instructor Whitney Linsenmeyer, MS, RD, LD, at wkline@slu.edu.
While the Culinary Club is open to students from any major, it is sponsored by the Nutrition and Dietetics department in the Doisy College of Health Sciences. The Nutrition and Dietetics department provides several different undergraduate and graduate tracks in which students can study to be a Registered Dietitian, chef, food service entrepreneur or many other interesting options.
