DCHS Students and Faculty Inducted into Alpha Eta Society

The Doisy College of Health Sciences (DCHS) recently welcomed over 100 students and two of its faculty members into the Saint Louis University chapter of the Alpha Eta Society - the national honor society for the Allied Health professions. The inductees were honored with a ceremony in SLU’s Allied Health Professions Building in November 2021.

Alpha Eta Certificates
The SLU Doisy College of Health Sciences inducted its 2021 class of Alpha Eta Society inductees in November 2021.

To be inducted in the Alpha Eta Society, graduate students are required to have a GPA of 3.8 or higher while undergraduate students require a GPA of 3.5 or higher (both numbers are based on a 4.0 scale). In addition, both graduate and undergraduate inductees must also have shown the capacity for leadership and achievement in their respective fields. Prospective students are nominated by their departments, voted on by the Alpha Eta faculty membership and, finally, approved by the Dean.

Faculty inductees are chosen based on distinguished scholarship, leadership and service to allied health education. They are selected by their colleagues that are already members of the Alpha Eta Society and they can only become eligible after gaining three years of experience at the DCHS.

Nutrition and Dietetics student Kyle Archdeacon was one of the students inducted into the Alpha Eta Society at the ceremony; he discussed how great he felt to become part of such a prestigious organization.

“My induction into the Alpha Eta Society was just that: an honor,” Archdeacon said. “To be recognized for my hard work and achievement alongside peers who I look to as role models was a gratifying experience. I appreciated the recognition from the faculty and cannot thank them enough for the learning environment they have created.”

SLU Alpha Eta Chapter President Associate Professor Crystal Botkin, Ph.D., MPH, CNMT, FSNMMI-TS, was proud to help induct over 100 students this year and honor their dedication to academics and service.

“I hope the students take pride in their hard work and recognize others who have made it possible. More importantly, though, I desire that they will continue to make a difference through their knowledge, discovery and service to others,” Dr. Botkin said.
