Electronic Resources and Social Sciences Librarian

Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit institution dedicated to student learning, research, health care, and service, is seeking applicants for the position of Electronic Resources and Social Sciences Librarian, Pius XII Memorial Library.
The Electronic Resources and Social Sciences Librarian reports to the Chair of Research and Instruction Services and has two primary areas of responsibility: (1) management of electronic resources; and (2) subject librarian duties for multiple social science disciplines.
Responsibilities Include:
- Develop strategic initiatives that reflect best practices and emerging trends in electronic resource management.
- Implement, manage, ensure access to, and troubleshoot the Libraries' electronic resources.
- Liaise with vendors, publishers, and consortial partners to negotiate subscriptions.
- Gather data/usage statistics to support collection decisions and annual reporting requirements.
- Serve as the subject librarian for social science subjects and academic departments. These will be determined by the successful candidate's experience and interests and the Research and Instruction Services department's needs and may include, but are not limited to, social work, sociology, psychology, and communication.
- Teach interactive, curriculum-integrated instruction sessions in the classroom and online.
- Create tutorials, learning objects, or other curricular resources in a variety of media.
- Select resources supporting the teaching and research needs of social sciences students and faculty.
- Participate in general reference and instructional services in a team-based environment.
- Participate in professional activities, including university and library committees and task forces, and attend professional meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association (or the appropriate national body of another country).
- Library or consortium experience in the management of electronic resources.
- Knowledge of information sources related to social sciences research and an understanding of the information needs of social sciences faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students.
- Demonstrated positive public service orientation, evidence of strong organizational abilities and teamwork skills, effective oral/written communication skills, well-developed research skills, and a commitment to professional growth.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more years of professional library experience in the management of electronic resources.
- Two or more years of professional library experience as a subject librarian for one or more social science disciplines.
- Undergraduate and/or additional graduate degree(s) or coursework in a social science discipline.
- Familiarity with copyright issues in higher education.
- Knowledge of evidence-based practices, systematic reviews, secondary datasets, policy analysis, and clinical interventions
- Experience with social sciences data services, data visualization, and other data-related trends in librarianship.
- Understanding of the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.

The STEM Research and Instruction Librarian reports to the Chair of Research and Instruction Services and has the following areas of responsibility:
- Serve as the subject librarian for the natural and physical sciences, engineering, aviation, computer science, and mathematics.
- Select resources supporting the teaching and research needs of STEM students and faculty.
- Conduct subject-specific research consultations both in person and online.
- Teach interactive, curriculum-integrated instructional sessions.
- Create tutorials, learning objects, or other curricular resources in a variety of media.
- Participate in general reference and instructional services in a team-based environment.
- Participate in shared departmental tasks and initiatives. These may include but are not limited to assessment, data collection and analysis, collection management, copyright education, and maintenance and evaluation of electronic resources.
- Engage in professional activities, including university and library committees and task forces, and attend professional meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in librarianship from a library program accredited by the American Library Association (or the appropriate national body of another country).
- Academic or professional background in one or more STEM disciplines.
- Knowledge of information sources related to STEM research and an understanding of the information needs of STEM faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students.

Health Sciences Reference Librarian

Duties
This position provides biomedical reference services that include assisting health sciences faculty and students in the effective use of their literature; participating in the library's program of instruction; and serving as clinical services liaison to faculty, students, and staff at our Medical Center and affiliated hospitals.

library services to faculty, students, and staff in the Schools of Medicine, Nursing,
Doisy College of Health Sciences, Public Health, and the Center for Advanced Dental

Requirements
MLS from an ALA accredited program. Advanced education beyond the bachelor's degree
in a health science discipline. Demonstrated knowledge in a medical or health sciences
subject area. Experience with evidence-based clinical practice and systematic reviews.
Successful decision making, problem solving ability, and planning skills. Strong user
centered approach to library services and information technology. Excellent oral,
written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability and motivation for continuous
professional development and for growth as a faculty member. Ability to meet deadlines

Job Description

Reporting to the Head of Collection Management Services, the Archivist provides reference and patron services, participates in classroom instruction and outreach, and performs organization and processing of archival, manuscript and photographic collections in the Saint Louis University Archives and Digital Services department.
Responsibilities
- Serves as primary contact for reference and public service activities in the Archives, including creating and implementing applicable policies.
- Promotes use of collections through classroom instruction, outreach, public presentations, tours, exhibits, and publications.
- Accessions, appraises, and inventories newly acquired materials, and performs necessary preservation or physical preparation, or supervises student workers in these tasks.
- Prepares, organizes, and processes archives, manuscripts, and photographic collections.
- Creates finding guides, records, and metadata using DACS, Archives Space, and CONTENTdm, or trains and directs others in doing so.
- With the Digital Resources Librarian, identifies and prioritizes projects and materials for digitation.
- Oversees patron use of materials in a reading room shared with the Special Collections Rare Books division of the Library.
- Supervises student assistants and occasional interns on assigned projects.
- Provides service to the department, library, and University through active participation on committees, task forces, and meetings.
- Maintains skills and knowledge of current developments in archives and the profession through active membership in professional organizations, reading the professional literature, and attending educational programs and conferences.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library and information science program, with an emphasis in archives or related field.
- Minimum of one to two years' relevant experience in an archives or library setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of metadata and encoding standards, such as DACS, EAD, Dublin Core, AACR2 and RDA, as well as controlled vocabularies, such as LCSH and AAT.
- Demonstrated knowledge of archival collection management systems such as Archives Space.
- Ability to balance and complete multiple concurrent projects, set priorities, and work creatively in a rapidly changing environment.
- Excellent written and oral Communication skills.
- Ability to perform tasks associated with retrieval of archival materials and to move/lift up to 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Second master's degree in a related field, such as American History or Theology.
- College or University archives experience.
- Certification as an Archivist by the Academy of Certified Archivists.
- Knowledge of applicable domain knowledge areas, e.g., Jesuit history, Catholic history, St. Louis regional history.
