Immersion at Home Program
Immersion at Home Program Details
In light of COVID-related restrictions on travel, Campus Ministry's immersive spring break programming for 2021 will highlight learning and engaging with marginalized communities in ways that respect social distancing, while still striving for engagement and growth in solidarity.
Program Requirements
- Applications are due on Sunday, February 14, 2021
- Small groups of fewer than 10 students will meet weekly in person, socially distanced (as long as it is safe to do so) beginning the week of March 1, 2021 and ending the last week of April (no meetings will be held during mid-terms week)
- During small group meetings you will engage with the program pillars of Community, Spirituality, Social Justice and Solidarity. You will also dive deeper into a particular social justice issue/theme through group learning and discussion, virtual presentations from experts around St. Louis and around the country, and individual exploration
- Each small group will participate in a Local Immersion Day focused on the group theme (Racial Justice, Public Health or Immigration) as it relates to our St. Louis context. This event will take place on Saturday, April 17, 2021 (transportation and meals provided throughout the day) Together with your group, you will complete a “Solidarity Project” after your immersion experience that is focused on transforming your learning into meaningful and just action
Small Group Meeting Times
- Racial Justice Theme: Wednesdays from 7-8:30 p.m.
- Public Health Theme: Wednesdays from 6:30-8 p.m.
- Immigration Theme: Thursdays from 6:30-8 p.m.
Please Note: On your application you will be asked to rank your theme preferences in order. Placement in your first choice theme cannot be guaranteed as space in each group is limited.
Program Cost
The program fee for Immersion at Home Program is $30.
- This program fee will go towards supporting the partner organizations/agencies with whom we will be working. Our continued financial support of these organizations is crucial during the difficulties that have arisen due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- If you are in need of financial assistance but would still like to participate in the Immersion at Home Program, please contact Michelle Verner (michelle.verner@slu.edu) to inquire about available assistance.
Before applying, please read the above requirements carefully, as you must be willing to commit to the full program in order to be placed in a small group. If you have any questions, please reach out to Immersion Program Coordinator Michelle Verner (michelle.verner@slu.edu)
