Saint Louis University, INTO University Partnerships Sign Agreement That Will Bring New International Students To St. Louis

Saint Louis University (SLU) and INTO University Partnerships announced today a long-term agreement that will extend the SLU's global reach and enhance educational access for international students.

Ranked as one of the top-100 national universities in the United States, SLU is the first school in Missouri and the first among the nation's 28 Jesuit institutions to enter into this type of joint venture. INTO is a private company that partners with leading universities across the world to expand opportunities for higher education, ensuring student success, and achieving globally diverse and integrated campus communities.

"As a Jesuit university with more than 120,000 alumni living and working across the planet, SLU is committed to preparing students to thrive in an ever shrinking world," said University President Fred P. Pestello, Ph.D. "We are, therefore, delighted to announce this partnership with INTO. It will enhance our ability to deliver a rigorous SLU education to an even larger number of international students."

The joint venture will create a separate entity called INTO Saint Louis University, which will be managed by a board of directors that includes leaders from both organizations. Working together, SLU and INTO will develop academic pathway programs for international students to improve their English language comprehension while preparing them to be successful, degree-seeking students at SLU.

"It is a real privilege to work with a university with such an outstanding academic pedigree, but it is not just academic excellence which makes us so proud to partner with Saint Louis University," said John Sykes, CEO of INTO University Partnerships. "We are confident of the long-term success of INTO SLU as we know that successful partnerships are based on trust, shared values and a partner with an entrepreneurial and pioneering spirit. SLU, the first university established West of the Mississippi River, has a legacy of bringing higher education to those who have had previously limited access."

This joint venture will help many more international students, who crave a fantastic education, realize their dream of studying in the United States and place them on a path to success.

International students who enroll in the enhanced English language and academic programs at SLU will be taught by members of the University's premier faculty. They also will receive specialized support services, including tutoring, and will have access to all of Saint Louis University's campus facilities, including libraries, recreation center and the Center for Global Citizenship.

"Increasing international student enrollment will enrich the educational experience of our U.S. students, who will be exposed to an even wider range of cultural perspectives and views in our classrooms," said SLU Provost Nancy Brickhouse, Ph.D. "This new partnership will also create a wider global network of alumni, increase teaching and research opportunities for our faculty, and boost local economic activity as we attract more international students to the St. Louis region."

During the week of Oct.12, more than 50 members of INTO's global recruitment network will visit SLU's St. Louis campus to gain a deeper understanding of the institution and the city. Through meetings with faculty, staff and students, the counselors will be well prepared to advise international students in their home countries about the value of a Saint Louis University education.

"We are thrilled to partner with such a reputable and distinctive institution. Saint Louis University's academic standing, commitment to service and urban campus setting resonate loudly with international students," said Mary Jane Miller, chief operating officer for INTO North America, based in San Diego. "This joint venture will help many more international students, who crave a fantastic education, realize their dream of studying in the United States and place them on a path to success."

Since 2006, INTO has successfully launched partnerships with 21 universities around the world, enrolling more than 67,000 students from 166 countries. With this agreement, SLU becomes the seventh U.S. institution to partner with INTO, joining Oregon State University, University of South Florida, Colorado State University, Marshall University, George Mason University and Drew University.
