Annual Sam and Marilyn Fox Atlas Week Explores Global Issues

An evening of music, dance, and Latin American and Caribbean cuisine kicked off this year’s Sam and Marilyn Fox Atlas Week at Saint Louis University, April 2, in SLU’s Center for Global Citizenship.

The theme for this year was “Visions for Global Change: Start Where You Are. Do What You Can.” It was a motif highlighted by full-time global humanitarian volunteer Alison Thompson, who delivered the keynote lecture: “Serving Humanity: Start Small, Dream Big, Act Now.”

This year’s Atlas Week events explored a number of critical topics, from climate change to the global water crisis. Speakers and panelists also discussed ways that members of the SLU community can follow the call of the University’s mission to bring about positive change in the world.

The week drew to a colorful close on April 7 with the annual Parade of Nations — which featured students carrying flags for dozens of different nations through the north campus quadrangle — and the Billiken World Festival in the Center for Global Citizenship.
