University Seeks Honorary Degree Nominations for 2019
Saint Louis University is seeking nominations for distinguished individuals to be awarded honorary degrees at the May 2019 commencement ceremony.
An honorary degree is the University’s most prestigious recognition. Nominees should
merit special recognition for genuine achievement and distinction in a field or activity
consonant with Jesuit values and the mission of the University.
The Board of Trustees Honorary Degrees and Special Recognition Subcommittee has established
the following criteria for nominees:
“An honorary degree may be awarded by the Board of Trustees to an individual who over
the course of sustained period has demonstrated eminence in a field of scholarship,
research, public service, or in an artistic, literary, governmental, religious, financial,
or other endeavor and for which there is an adequate reason for recognition by Saint
Louis University because of an association or relationship with the University, or
a strong connection between the individual’s achievements, the mission or life of
the University, and its Jesuit values.”
All members of the SLU community — faculty, students, staff and alumni — are invited
to nominate worthy individuals for this recognition. Nominations, which can be made
using this form, should provide a summary of the individual’s accomplishments in light of the criteria
and reasons for considering the individual for an honorary degree. They are due by
Thursday, March 29.
The University Committee will review all nominations and submit its recommendations
to the Board of Trustees Honorary Degrees and Special Recognition Subcommittee, which
will review the recommended nominations and such other nominations as it may choose
and submit its final recommendations to the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees
will make the final decision.
