Chet Gillis, Ph.D., a former dean of Georgetown College at Georgetown University, will assume the position of interim SLU provost effective Jan. 1, 2019 through July 2021.

“While there are a number of initiatives and projects that need to move forward this semester, first among them is listening to the needs of our faculty and staff, deepening relationships, and ensuring that we make progress on building a more inclusive, transparent, person-centered, and mission based culture,” Pestello wrote.

“Michael’s prior experience aligns with this need and will be critical to Dr. Gillis’ transition in January.”

As a faculty member at SLU since 2004 and an experienced provost team member, Lewis brings strong perspective to the position.

His teaching has been recognized by the College of Arts & Sciences with the William V. Stauder, S.J. award for excellence in undergraduate teaching in the natural sciences, he is a respected colleague, and a dedicated researcher.

Pestello said he will meet weekly with Lewis to discuss key academic matters.
