Mission Message: 'A Community Dispersed But Still United'

03/13/2020

In a message shared with the SLU community Friday, March 13, the Office of Mission and Identity announced a way for Billikens to remain connected to one another while apart through prayer and Ignatian solidarity.

A Community Dispersed But Still United

These times call us as a SLU community to come together in unity even as we may be separated from each other geographically.  Dr. Pestello referenced last night Matthew Carnes, S.J.'s,  Twitter thread:  “St. Ignatius and the first companions saw themselves as ‘communitas ad dispersionem’ – a community in dispersion.”

One way to remain united is to be purposeful in being connected by our mission and identity.  We are called to counter fear and isolation with faith and community by remaining strong in our mutual commitment to one another and to our mission regardless of our proximity to campus.

To this end, during these weeks of remote coursework, the Office of Mission and Identity will be providing a daily reflection or prayer on our Facebook page beginning at noon today, Friday, March 13.

Each one of us is encouraged to take a moment each day to “plug in” to the larger SLU community by sharing in this reflection or prayer.  This is a valuable opportunity for each of us to choose to let this time bring us closer together in mission rather than keep us apart.

You are invited to join us on Facebook  @slujesuitmission.
