The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) installed Patrick F. Foley, D.D.S., M.S.D., as president-elect of the organization. Foley is the associate director of Saint Louis University’s Center for Advanced Dental Education.
Foley is an associate professor of orthodontics. He previously had a private practice in orthodontics for 30 years.
In addition to Foley, the other 2021-2022 officers of the ABO include David G. Sabott, D.D.S., M.S., of Erie, Colo., president; Timothy S. Trulove, D.M.D., M.S., of Montgomery, Ala., secretary/treasurer; and Valmy Pangrazio-Kulbersh, D.D.S., M.S., of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., immediate past president. The officers’ terms began May 1.
The ABO is the only orthodontic specialty board recognized by the American Dental Association and in affiliation with the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO). The successful completion of the ABO examination process is a demonstration to the dental profession and the general public of the orthodontist’s pursuit of continued proficiency and excellence in orthodontics.
Each ABO director represents one of eight constituent organizations of the AAO and serves an eight-year term, which culminates in the position of the president. ABO directors are responsible for establishing policy with regard to the board certification of specialists in orthodontics. During his tenure as an ABO director, Foley has represented the Midwestern Society of Orthodontists (MSO). As president-elect, Foley is a member of the the ABO’ executive, written and certification committees.
First certified by the ABO in 1995, Foley is a member of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics (CDABO). He is a past president of the Illinois Society of Orthodontists and is member of the World Federation of Orthodontists.
Foley obtained his dental degree from the University of Illinois and his master’s degree in orthodontics from Saint Louis University.
