Suicide Prevention Training Offered for Departments, Student Organizations

Developed by the University Counseling Center and the Office of Health Promotion and Education, a new module has been designed to educate faculty, staff and students on suicide prevention and intervention.

According to the 2015 MCHBS survey, 14 percent of SLU students reported having suicidal thoughts in the past year, well above the national average of eight percent.

In light of this information, a suicide prevention module, C(QLC), was formed by the University Counseling Center and the Office of Health Promotion and Education to address this alarming issue on SLU’s campus.

The module is designed to educate and empower students, faculty and staff on suicide prevention and intervention. The trainers, Jennifer Scott and Arathi Srikanta, can present and tailor the module for department meetings, student organization meetings or any other population.

Two general trainings have been scheduled for 3 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 14, and 3 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 16, and additional trainings may be requested. The training will take place in Wuller Hall, second-floor Conference Room 214.

RSVP for an existing training or request a training online.
