Local Turkeys, Thanksgiving Fixings Available for Sale
The Food Innovation and Entrepreneurship program's Soup and Deli group will be selling local turkeys, turkey breasts, brown turkey broth, local sweet potatoes, local Yukon Gold potatoes and dinner rolls.
The turkeys come from Buttonwood Farm and are raised on pasture and all-natural poultry chow (without antibiotics or hormones) and are free to forage.
All of the orders must be placed through Laura Rettig, assistant in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, via email at lrettig1@slu.edu or phone at 314-977-6563, or drop off an order in Salus Center, Room 0045.
Orders are due Wednesday, Nov. 16. Cancellation after Nov. 16 results in a $50 deposit charge.
Accepted forms of payment are cash, checks (with ID/Banner#) and credit card. Credit card number is required to hold a turkey order.
The following items are available:
- Turkeys - $3.63 per pound
- Hens 16-19 lbs. (+/- 2 lbs.)
- Toms 21-25 lbs. (+/- 2 lbs.)
- Turkey breast - $6.50 per pound (avg. 5 to 7 lbs.)
- Brown turkey stock - $9 per half gallon
- Parkhurst dinner rolls - $5 per dozen
- Local sweet potatoes - $2.25 per pound
- Local Yukon Gold potatoes - $2 per pound
Pick-up will be at the Salus Center loading dock:
- Noon to 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21
- 8 a.m. and noon on Tuesday, Nov. 22
Customers will pull up to the Salus Center dock located on the corner of S. Grand and Lafayette, and the turkeys will be loaded into their cars.
