Center for International Studies Celebrates 20 Years at SLU
The Center for International Studies is celebrating its 20th year as a degree program at Saint Louis University and kicked off the year-long celebration with a Welcome Back Party for faculty, staff and students on Sept. 1.
At the event, David Borgmeyer, Ph.D., director and assistant professor, announced plans for a 20th Anniversary Lecture Series and a 20th anniversary issue of Global SLU (GS) Magazine for the 2016-17 academic year.
"The 20th anniversary of the Center for International Studies is an important milestone that testifies to the long-term commitment of SLU to being a truly international institution,” Borgmeyer said. “Our 20th Anniversary Lecture Series will bring a diverse group of outstanding international scholars and figures to SLU. For our students, faculty, staff and friends of the Center, it's an exciting way to show what we do – collaborate with the SLU community, outside groups and international partners to facilitate and enrich the global dimension of the education SLU offers."
The lecture series begins Saturday, Oct. 22, with a keynote talk by Nyirkos Tamás, Ph.D., of Pázmány Péter Catholic University in Budapest, Hungary. The lecture is being delivered during the annual Central Slavic Conference, sponsored by the Center for International Studies, and will coincide with the 60th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution.
Other lectures for the series include:
- Feb. 21, 2017, Middle East Studies Annual Lecture: Bianca Kuehnel, Ph.D., of Hebrew University, will present "The Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem."
- Spring 2017: Visiting Fleming Fellow Lancy Monteiro, Ph.D., S.J., will discuss interreligious dialogue. (Exact date TBD.)
