Research Services Recruiting for Research Administrator Training Cohort 3
Support staff play a critical role in the continuing evolution of SLU’s research enterprise.
The Research Administrator Training program (RAT) was implemented in the fall of 2015 in recognition of the importance and complexities of the research support roles at the department and school levels. Two cohorts of 12 have completed the program.
The entire University benefits when these behind-the-scenes players excel in their complex roles, said Bill Siler, Ph.D., director of the Office of Research Services.
“They free faculty members to pursue their passions and the University to fulfill
its mission,” Siler said. “There are complicated processes involved, and we want these
sessions to eliminate confusion and build a sense of community.”
Nominations and applications are now being solicited for the third cohort of participants
in RAT. Up to 12 participants will complete an eight-session course in the spring
of 2017. The sessions cover a wide range of responsibilities including:
- Finding funding opportunities that match faculty goals.
- Navigating the maze of SLU and/or government policies regarding budgeting, subcontracts, conflict of interest, human and animal research protocols, foreign travel or working with foreign companies or citizens.
- Completing reports on project progress, hiring, effort, or spending.
- Requesting extensions and closing projects.
- Updating SLU’s Electronic Research Services database to reflect all these duties.
Participants will have their completion of RAT documented in their SLU personnel files. To learn more, to nominate a staff member for inclusion or to apply for a position contact Bill Siler at silerwl@slu.edu or 977-2238.
