Magis Operational Excellence Open Forums Continue This Week

More than 300 members of the Saint Louis University community attended community forums in Busch Student Center, Cook Hall and the Learning Resources Center last week following the Aug. 31 release of the Magis Operational Excellence program diagnostic report.

The report follows a four-month comprehensive review of SLU’s operations that was led by an 18-member steering committee of faculty, staff and student representatives. The 80-page document describes the process, data analysis and 25 focus areas selected by University President Fred P. Pestello, Ph.D., for further development.

During the forums, program coordinators Associate Professor Eric Armbrecht, Ph.D., and Vice President for Human Resources Mickey Luna, J.D., provided a brief overview of the diagnostic phase process, findings and next steps. Most of the time in each hour-long session was devoted to addressing questions from the community.

“We have received thoughtful comments and tough questions about the facts, figures and focus areas described in the report,” Armbrecht said. “The feedback is certainly informing future analyses and the way forward for the Magis Operational Excellence program.”

The open meetings continue the week of Sept. 5, including one scheduled in Scott Hall (School of Law) in downtown St. Louis and another in San Ignacio Hall on the Madrid campus. The remaining schedule follows below.

“The high level of engagement from our community on this project has been impressive, and it will be critical for the success of this program that SLU stakeholders continue to engage in this process as we move forward,” Luna said.

With the release of diagnostic report, the Magis Operational Excellence program website has been updated with a new set of FAQs, as well as information about the first focus area currently underway — enhancing the travel process at SLU.

The site continues to feature a feedback form that members of the University community can use to submit ideas and questions to the project team, led by Armbrecht and Luna, who welcome all input.
