SLU Equestrian Team Rounds Out Year of Riding, Competition and Service
The SLU Equestrian Team has had another enjoyable and successful year of learning, riding, and competing.
The hunt seat team started off their competition season at the Truman State University show October 8-9, 2016. The team earned Reserve High Point Team. Freshman Annika Hylen won High Point Rider by placing first in both her flat and over fences classes. Jennifer Kraemer qualified for regionals, earned her way up to the next level of riding and placed overall at fourth in the region. Every new rider on the team won at least one first place ribbon. The team rode at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale October 15-16, 2016 and placed sixth in the region at a show November 5-6, 2016 at Missouri State University.
The SLU Equestrian Hunt Seat team has been competing in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) in Zone 7 Region 5 since 2012. Riders on the Show Team compete in three shows throughout the year, competing against universities in Missouri and Illinois. Riders compete in divisions based on their riding experience and points are earned individually and as a team.
Riders from any level are encouraged to join the team and have the opportunity to compete. The team accommodates riders from the hunt seat and western disciplines and organizes weekly lessons for members. In addition to riding, the team has weekly meetings, hosts fundraisers, volunteers at Equine-Assisted Therapy in Wildwood, Mo. and Longmeadow Rescue Ranch and organizes fellowship events for members. Any SLU student, faculty or staff member is welcome to join. Please e-mail sluet@slu.edu for more information.
