Export Controls Issues Warning for SLU Travelers

Faculty, staff and students should be careful when booking accommodations abroad due to federal regulations regarding payments to foreign countries, including North Korea.

International travelers should be aware that the North Korean government owns a hostel in Germany. Under Executive Order 13722 and OFAC embargoes, U.S. persons are prohibited from providing funds to the North Korean government. Travelers should refrain from staying in the Cityhostel Berlin during trips to Germany to avoid violating federal law.
