Graduate Medical Education Research Symposium Winners Announced
The April 11 symposium was open to all current residents and fellows. Seven posters were chosen for awards based on their presentations and research design.
The first place oral presentation was awarded to Stephen Plachta, M.D. (Orthopaedic Surgery), who presented “Dynamization Potential of Circular Hexapod Frames with Divergent Struts."
The second place oral presentation was awarded to Cassandra Joy Simonetta, M.D. (Dermatology), who presented “Patient Identification of Benign and Malignant Skin Lesions: Can A Simple Pictorial Intervention Make a Difference?”
Honorable mention oral presentations were awarded to Serena Byrd, M.D. (Otolaryngology), who presented "Oncologic and Functional Outcomes of Pretreatment Tracheotomy in Advanced Laryngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma” and Johar Syed, M.D. (Urology) who presented “The Impact of USPSTF Recommendations on Prostate Cancer Incidence: A SEER Database Analysis Stratified by Race and Gleason Score.”
Three separate awards for best posters without a presentation were awarded to Cara Buskmiller, M.D. (Internal Medicine) for her poster, “Maternity Homes Improve Relationships and Connection Among Underserved Pregnant Women,” Rachna Rawal, M.D. and Oluwasayo Adeyemo, M.D. (Pediatrics) for the poster, “Reducing The Number of Laboratory Orders in a Tertiary Academic Facility: A Quality Improvement Study,” and Daniel Wehrmann, M.D. (Otolaryngology), for his poster, “Evaluating the Role of Secreted Protein and Rich in Cysteine (SPARC) in Oral Cavity Squamous Cell Carcinoma and its Impact on Prognosis.”
