Business Students Named 2016-17 Society of Industrial and Office Realtor (SIOR) Scholars at SLU
Three students from Saint Louis University's Richard A. Chaifetz School of Business were introduced at a luncheon and members meeting of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR) at the St. Louis Club Wednesday, Feb. 15, as the SIOR 2016-17 Scholars at SLU.
Seniors Austin Peterson, Keely Resing and Kevin Toner had the opportunity to network with members of the SIOR local chapter. Each student has received an $8,000 scholarship from SIOR for this academic year.
This is the third year for the scholarship, which is awarded to SLU business students interested in commercial real estate. The scholarship is the result of a partnership between the St. Louis SIOR chapter, the SIOR Foundation -- the national charitable arm of SIOR -- and SLU, through its Go Further matching program.
The St. Louis SIOR chapter contributed $6,000, matched by the national SIOR Foundation for a total contribution of $12,000, which in turn was matched by SLU for a total scholarship fund of $24,000.
Go Further is a SLU scholarship initiative whereby qualified undergraduate scholarships of $100 or greater are matched dollar for dollar by the University.
The SLU Go Further match was instrumental in the decision by SIOR to support undergraduate scholarships, as it doubles their gift and enables them to provide greater support to recipients.
Students eligible to apply for the SIOR St. Louis Chapter and SIOR Foundation Scholarship are U.S. citizens who are junior and senior business students with a finance concentration, a minimum GPA of 2.5 and an interest in a career in commercial real estate. Students must submit a resume, current transcript and an essay describing their interest in commercial real estate. The 2017-18 application process will open in early spring and eligible students will be notified.
In addition to the funds, the scholarship provides a unique opportunity for the SIOR Scholars to meet and engage with professionals working in commercial real estate in St. Louis, potentially leading to the development of mentoring and advising relationships, internships and/or permanent employment opportunities for the Scholars.
