Volunteers Needed for Presidential, MLK Scholarship Weekends

In February and March 2017, the Office of Admission will host three interview weekends in conjunction with two freshman scholarships: the Presidential Scholarship and the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship.

Faculty and staff members are strongly encouraged to take advantage of these excellent opportunities to serve as interviewers and to aid in the recruitment of the University’s fall 2017 freshman class.

The full-tuition Presidential Scholarship is awarded to a select number of SLU’s most qualified freshman applicants. This year, the University will invite approximately over 500 students to interview for the Presidential Scholarship during the course of two consecutive weekends. Interviews will take place on Saturday, Feb. 11 and Saturday, Feb. 18.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship is awarded to students who are committed to promoting diversity in society. Awardees must demonstrate leadership in multicultural, school or community activities that espouse Dr. King’s ideals and present a vision to increase diversity on SLU’s campus. Interviews for this scholarship will take place on Saturday, March 25.

Each program also will feature a Friday-evening reception that gives interviewers an informal opportunity to meet the candidates. Breakfast and lunch will be served at each event.

Because the magnitude of each scholarship weekend requires the involvement of so many individuals, faculty and staff participation is essential to make each event a success.
