Honors LC Named SLU's Choice Winner in Video Contest
The Honors Learning Community (LC) won the voting and bragging rights in SLU’s second ‘LC Ya Later’ video contest. The video submitted by the Leadership and Social Change LC was named Staff’s Choice winner.
The two winning videos were among eight submitted by the University’s Learning Communities, which combine scholarship with communal living in SLU residence halls. The videos were one-to-four minutes long. Voting took place earlier this month. The contest tallied over 300 votes.
SLU currently has nine learning communities with about 800 residents drawn from the freshman and sophomore classes. Students who live in the on-campus LCs take classes centered around a particular major or theme. They live together, take part in off-campus trips, special lecture series, service activities and social gatherings. The communities were created in part because research shows that students are more successful academically when their coursework touches other aspects of their lives.
