SLUMA to Host Congressional Art Contest Exhibit

Artists from high schools throughout Missouri’s 1st Congressional District will be on hand to open an exhibit honoring their work May 12 at the Saint Louis University Museum of Art (SLUMA). SLUMA is hosting the 17th Annual Congressional Art Competition, which is part of a nation-wide contest sponsored by members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The winner from each congressional district has the opportunity to visit Washington D.C. and winning art works are displayed in the U.S. Capitol for a year.

Rep. William Lacy Clay Jr. will speak during opening reception.

The opening reception starts at 5 p.m., May 12. Clay will speak from 5:30 to 6 p.m. and the contest’s winners will be announced. Guests and artists will then have the opportunity to view the contest’s submissions in SLUMA’s galleries.

The works will hang until June 11 and are vieweable Wednesdays through Sundays, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
