SLU's Pestello to Speak at Forum on DACA, Dreamers
10/31/2017
University President Fred P. Pestello, Ph.D., will welcome government officials and representatives from national advocacy groups who will come to SLU to talk about legal resources, strategies and the potential impacts on immigrants as the expiration of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Program nears its expiration date.
The forum, “Know Your Rights on DACA: A Nation of Dreamers and the Future of the American Dream,” will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 10, at the Center for Global Citizenship.
Pestello will share remarks before a panel discussion that includes Rep. William Lacy Clay of Missouri’s 1st Congressional District, Rep. Raul Grijalva from Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District, Jeffrey Mittman, executive director of the ACLU of Missouri, and other immigration experts.
The forum will discuss matters ranging from legal resources and strategies as DACA’s expiration nears to the impact of the DACA program nationally and locally. Immigrant youth who are directly impacted by the program are encouraged to share their stories in person and to join the conversation.
RSVPs are requested by Nov. 6 to 314-669-9393 or by email to Jasmina Hadzic.
Parking for the event will be available in the visitor section of SLU’s Laclede Garage or at meters along Laclede Avenue.
