Entrepreneurship Goes Sky High at Collegiate Competition
The top 18 finalists in the Pure Idea Generator Competition found themselves reaching for the sky as they jumped aboard “Big Eli” at the City Museum in downtown St. Louis Sunday, Oct. 8.
The final round, hosted by Saint Louis University’s Chaifetz Center for Entrepreneurship, was the culmination of a competition that brought nearly 150 submissions from as far as Canada and Argentina.
As the finalists climbed on the three-story Ferris wheel for a 30-minutes ride with their brainstorm buddies, they received a new problem from St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson and were tasked with coming up with creative solutions.
The final round problem was:
St. Louis is known as the 'Gateway to the West’. Since the late 1700s, that nickname symbolized our city's ability to bridge cultural divides between the East and the unknown West. We offered an invitation for opportunity and inclusion. Today, St. Louis continues to work to live up to this ideal as it faces many challenges in providing equality to all those in our city. What event, product or service would you create to continue bridging the gap while facilitating openness and building a more inclusive St. Louis?
The top three prize winners in the competition were:
- 1st Place: Trey Fuchs (SLU) - won $1,000
- 2nd Place: Jose Moreno (Purdue University) - won $500
- 3rd Place: Tie - Ashley Moyna (SLU) and Matthew Glassman (SLU) - each won $300
