Bicentennial Year Kicks Off with Special Mass Under the St. Louis Gateway Arch

The outdoor Mass will begin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23. The altar will be located on the Riverfront Overlook Stage on Lenore K. Sullivan Boulevard. Attendees will be invited to stay on the Arch grounds following Mass to enjoy a special fireworks display and other family-friendly activities, including music by the LustreLights, food trucks, face painting, magicians and inflatables.

Founded in 1818, the University begins 15 months of bicentennial activities with the Mass under the Arch.

The presider for Mass will be Most Rev. Robert J. Carlson, Archbishop of St. Louis, and the homily will be delivered by Very Rev. Ronald A. Mercier, S.J., provincial of the USA Central and Southern province of the Society of Jesus.

Alumni from across the country and around the world as well as from the St. Louis area are expected to attend the Mass which takes place during SLU’s annual homecoming and family weekend.
