An Update from the President About Sunday's Student Protest
Dear members of the SLU community,
Early this evening, a large group of protesters approached midtown and the SLU Campus. SLU students, who were among the protesters, were allowed back on campus. The larger group of protesters walked back east on Olive toward the St. Louis Police headquarters.
A group of SLU students, who had been a part of the larger protest, and other students who joined them walked through campus and nonviolently protested. Behind Busch Student Center, Dr. Pestello met with the students and listened to their concerns and tried to answer their questions.
The students then walked to the Grand Hall dining room. There are only SLU students
there, as every student had to swipe in to enter. There have been no incidents of
violence on campus. We expect the students to continue to voice their concerns and
press for justice in a peaceful manner. Dr. Pestello and other University leaders
are on campus this evening. The university will continue to remain open as usual tomorrow.
We will provide updates as warranted tonight and in the days ahead.
Sincerely,
Fred P. Pestello, Ph.D.
