SLUCare, SSM Health Consolidate EHR Systems
Saint Louis University and SSM Health have joined together to create a single-instance electronic health record to benefit patients, physicians, students, trainees and researchers.
Two years in the making, the Epic project went live on April 7.
Through Epic, the medical records of SLUCare and SSM Health patients now are combined in one system that is shared by SLUCare, SSM Health Medical Group and SSM Health St. Louis facilities and practice sites. The consolidated system provides the potential for greater care coordinated and integrated referrals as well as enhanced educational and research opportunities built from a broader database of patients.
SSM Health, which has operated the multi-state Epic system for more than 10 years, has developed system resources to support the platform SLUCare joined. SLU and SSM Health worked closely together to execute the project.
“Since the new system has been rolled out, we have also seen great effort, perseverance and team work when it comes to improving this experience for SLUCare patients, faculty and staff,” said Robert Heaney, M.D., SLUCare CEO.
William Manard, M.D., SLUCare chief medical informatics officer, led the project for SLUCare, supported by Heaney and David J. Hakanson, SLU vice president and Chief Information officer.
As with any large project, some disruption to clinical and business workflows are expected and will improve over the next few weeks as problems are addressed and resolved. Those who are experiencing any issues, may call 314-977-4000 and select option 5.
