Operating SLU Golf Carts
With the start of the new semester, Risk Management would like to remind golf cart/utility vehicle drivers of the following rules for operating carts on campus.
- No one under the age of 18 is allowed to operate a cart.
- Pedestrians always have the right of way. Maintain a safe driving distance behind the pedestrian.
- In times of heavy traffic, such as in between classes, pull over to the side to let students pass.
- Use designated crosswalks for crossing the street and obey the traffic laws.
- The new wider crosswalk at Grand does not allow for carts to stop in the middle. Only cross when the traffic signal stops traffic and allows for pedestrian crossing.
- Stop at blind intersections and then proceed with caution to avoid hitting a pedestrian.
- Remember that when you are operating a cart you are representing the University and thus should be acting in a manner that is fitting with the University’s mission – civilly, responsibly, etc.
- Make sure to set the brake and remove the key when not in use.
- At the end of the day, make sure to secure your cart either in a garage, gated area or with some sort of locking device.
