SLU 200: Jesuit Author Set as Next Bicentennial Speaker

The Saint Louis University Bicentennial Lecture Series, “The Jesuit Influence in American Spirituality, Education and Society,” will open the 2018 bicentennial year with a presentation by Mark Thibodeaux, S.J., “Discerning Our Role in Creating a Society of Justice and Love.” Thibodeaux will present at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, at St. Francis Xavier College Church.
Thibodeaux is novice director for the Central Southern Province of the Society of Jesus in Grand Couteau, Louisiana. He has served on the board of directors for Company magazine, a national Jesuit magazine. A former high school teacher, counselor, retreat director and spiritual director, he is author of four books on prayer, including Armchair Mystic: Easing into Contemplative Prayer and God’s Voice Within, The Ignatian Way to Discover God’s Will. The native Louisianan holds degrees in psychology and theology from Loyola University New Orleans and Weston Jesuit School of Theology in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

- Sept. 24, “Reimagining Health Care: Ignatian Insights for Achieving the Greater Good,” with Michael Rozier, S.J., a researcher and practitioner of health policy and public health ethics.
- Nov. 5, “Jesuit Education: Do We Need a New Paradigm?,” with Michael Garanzini, S.J., secretary of higher education for the Society of Jesus in Rome, and visiting professor of research in the Graduate School of Education at Fordham University.
