University Announces New Parental Leave Policy
02/27/2018
In keeping with Saint Louis University’s Jesuit mission — and a result of feedback from employees and the Staff Advisory Committee — the University has adopted a new Staff Parental Leave Policy. The policy recognizes that many employees may need to balance work obligations when their families are growing.
Effective Thursday, March 1, regular full-time staff may be eligible to receive up to six weeks of paid leave to care for and to bond with newborn or adopted children.
Some key stipulations of the new policy include:
- Regular full-time staff members who have completed one year of continuous service can take up to three weeks of paid parental leave during the child’s first year of life.
- Regular full-time staff members who have completed two or more years of continuous service can take up to six weeks of paid parental leave during the child’s first year of life.
- Regular full-time staff members who are adopting a child (regardless of the child’s age) and who have completed at least one year of continuous service can take up to six weeks of paid parental leave during the first year of the adopted child’s placement.
The policy is part of SLU’s commitment to being viewed as an employer of choice.
Additional information about SLU’s new Staff Parental Leave Policy will be sent to staff in the following weeks. For more information on the new policy, click here, or contact Human Resources.
